The new culture of Northeast PA

I am saddened to see the cultural decline that is occurring here in Northeast PA. It's so unfortunate to watch this decline accelerate as the years progress.

1. Strip clubs are popping up all over.
2. Gambling has been legalized and will feed another unhealthy addiction.
3. Local radio stations are filled with inappropriate commentary.
4. 97.9 has a billboard on 81 South near Dickson City that portrays a nude woman covering her breasts.

The only way this trend will be stopped is if our hearts are changed. We can take pictures of cars. We can formalize our complaints to local media and elected officials. But if we want to see lasting change, people need to recognize their need for Christ. Without the change of heart that He produces, we'll spend our days simply putting out fires.

I have hope. I am becoming more and more convinced that we will begin to see this change occur. Call me crazy (because I am), but I'm praying to that end. Please join me in that prayer.

  • !HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone...with this in mind. Let us remember the thanks we give for our food is only one but great part for having gratitude.
Let us give thanks for our loved ones and friends and for all who have been good to us. Let us give thanks for our loved ones who have gone before us, for them being a part of our lives.
Let us give thanks for those whose professions affect our lives in times of need: medicals, police, firemen, and all types of service people.
Let us give thanks for the precious gifts of our senses we have: eyesight, hearing, speech, taste, smell, touch, and the quality of health in our lives, even if it is not perfect. So many more have it worse.
Let us give thanks for all the things we take for granted: water, warmth, the beauty of nature, medications, and all the many truly priceless things that help or fulfill our lives and that which materialism cannot buy.

(More thanks would be personal to you.)

And finally, let us give thanks for what we do not have: the trials and sufferings that were deterred, incapacitating illnesses, and painful losses that can never seem to be completely healed. Yet let us realize that if they should occur in the future, some how, some way they are blessings in disguise.
Let us give thanks for having another day to do the best we can...

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!

    Thanks be to God.

  • This is one of those areas that the insecure people feel that they are deprived of gutter trash for some reason. There has been a sense of normalness for some time in this area and in the past 15 years that was not good enough so they had to reach for the filth in life to satisfy their insecurity. There is nothing like tapping the gutters and calling it righteous.

  • I have been saying for some time that NOT all our efforts should not be concentrated on the gclub, only to be greeted with sarcastic remarks like " the name of this site is the stop gclub" or you are just trying to change the subject. When one puts all one's eggs in one basket, ie
too narrowly focused on one issue, this is what happens.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:05 PM

  • While you have an odd sensitivity to what sarcasm is, what else do you have in mind to focus our efforts on if not this stop gclub issue on this stopgclub site?

Yet,have you not noticed the other broader avenues Mr. Family has presented in relationship: prayer, sex addiction, secondary effects, negative influences on society/children/women, politician's (ir)responsibilites, a radio station, objectionable material withdrawn on my.space, billboards......

Changing the subject? How does any other completely unrelated topics, that often surface, fit in to this issue?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:31 AM

  • 631, the other subjects you mention, alleged secondary effects, addiction etc would apply to ALL ADULT establishmenst not just the gclub, yet no cries about them operating, that is my point, at least three adult places opened after the gclub, not noticed
    by anyone here.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:50 AM

  • Numerous times other places, new and old, were "complained"/ complained about on this website. When Mr. Family offered his involvement and encouraged involvement, the complaints stopped. It would be fair to say that the "complaints" were from gclubbers who wanted the focus taken off of gclub. Other than that, if there were any sincere folks complaining, they went no further than the car pics at the grandview. So there were chances given, and most likely still open if there is co-operation. But let it be remembered that because of this website campaign, other towns have revamped their ordinances.
The points I and other a/c'ers mention are generalized points about all places, so in effect, they are all being decried.
Now since you wrote "alleged" secondary effects (which are not alleged), then are you pro-club? Otherwise, I still don't get your point. Please clarify your intentions as to how you think this should be handled.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:49 AM

  • Actually, secondary effetcs were proven false in front of the courts. Hence the reason more places pop up all over the country. The Secondary effect argument no longer holds up.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:40 AM

  • to 349 am actually, other towns revamps their ordinances because of the gclub fight with the township not mr family and there are about 20 adult places beside the grandville
and the gclub.-- the secondary effects are alleged, more and more courts are not buying into it, citing lack of proof in those reports are the persons who conducted them.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:07 PM

  • IF secondary effects are not true, then, for example, why did the former mayor of NYC, Giuliani, get rid of the x-rated places?
Why were there complaints from the residents who reside near Planet Pocono about their property values?
Why have the homes near the Cabaret not increased in value as much as homes further away?
Why the articles that Mr. Family presented from towns around the country complaining about their property values and general economic decline of their towns because of strip clubs?
And why have the same towns revamped their ordinances? And why do some of those revamped ordinances include strip clubs keeping a certain specified distance away from the communities if not because of negative influential reasons, among other tight restrictions?
The courts abide by those changes, do they not?
Why do engagement relationships break up because of the fiances being found out attending strip clubs?
IF other towns revamped their ordinances only because of gclub's fight with the twp., then why weren't those changes made in favor of strip clubs?
Why are drugs and prostitution always associated with strip clubs?

The reason these places are popping up all over is because of the decline of values in society with the encouragement of the porn industry.

  • to 515 am- if property values go down, as you claim, why is there a brand new building being built right nest to the glub on Mundy street? hy haven't the rents gone down in the area, Why haven't the appraised values/property taxes of these
properties gone down/ try asking for a reduction of your property taxes becuase it is near the glub.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:56 AM

  • Let's make it clear from the start that "I" alone did not make or concoct those "claims" in my posting of 5:15a. Let's also make it clear that they are facts presented in question form, not just alledged claims.
Pro-club is claiming secondary effects are not true, so WHEN you answer my questions, then perhaps I will answer yours, of which I do have answers for. (Btw, your rebuttal stuck to only one of the various related scope of topics that I presented.)

  • I am jewish so I suppose I do not count-- ie recognize the need for Christ. I will leave as this is a christian only website.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:31 AM

  • to 552 am they are just claims you made not facts,
check out what i said in my post- 'tis true about the new building and ask any merchant on mundy street if their rent or appraised value of their property went down. no it did not.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:12 AM

  • You got me! Be assured that "I" alone concocted the whole NYC-Giuliani event and put it in the national news. I also provoked the residents near Planet Pocono to complain about their property values, and I also told the borough of Kingston to keep the value of the homes lower near the Cabaret. I am also guilty of being the composer of all those newspaper articles across the country that Mr. Family posted. Guilty, too, of forcing nearby towns to revamp their ordinances or else! Then they went behind my back and said it was their idea.
Those engagement break-ups, yep, I caused that too! Btw, I am the only one who associates drugs and prostitution with strip clubs. But be assured that a new building being constructed on Mundy St. discredits all those things I said and did. Gotta to go now. Have to talk to all those merchants just like you did.

  • 612 when did you ever hear of rents going down??? gclub devalued the whole hub by being a disgraceful eyesore in a family oriented shopping, business, arena, and dining area!!!!! i guess you have no concept of shame!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:51 AM

  • 8:31, I'm an atheist who has posted here several times without being made to feel unwelcome by any christians. Perhaps it's because this site is about stopping gclub10 and all those of us dedicated to its demise feel no need to be uncivil to one another.
