The law

"If they pass tough enough laws, they could put me out of business."

These are the words of a strip club owner in Las Vegas, a city known for its vice. Read all about it here.

If that's the case in "Sin City," why isn't it the case here in Wilkes-Barre? One of the big arguments Gentlemen's Club 10 likes to use is that they are exempt from laws or ordinances that are put in place after they received their license.

Really.

That makes as much sense as me deciding that I don't have to obey new tax codes because they were put in place AFTER I became a tax payer.

Wilkes-Barre Twp. has clearly determined that Gentlemen's Club 10 will be a detriment to the community. They are therefore trying to protect the community as best as they can. As elected local officials, they have the authority to enact and enforce ordinances that serve the common good.

I'm interested in hearing a statement as to why WB Twp. is not enforcing their ordinances. Are they sick of fighting with Gentlemen's Club 10? Have they grown weary of Club 10's threats of litigation? Is there more to this story that we don't know?

If they enforced their ordinances, they could put Gentlemen's Club 10 out of business, and therefore chase away others who share Club 10's bad attitude and low community standards.

I applaud the Township's efforts up to this point, but friends, it's time to step back up to the plate and hit this thing out of the park.

Well, if we pass enough laws like in the old Soviet Union or Nazi Germany we could outlaw religion.

Doubt that would go over very big with either you or any of the other religions that find so much freedom to express their views in the United States today.

Remember, freedom from religious persecution works both ways...neither the goverment should tell religious groups what they can or cannot do, or, should religious groups force their beliefs on others that do not believe in what they think or believe in.

That's what makes our country so great and unique on this planet of our's.

  • I don't believe in organized religion and I don't believe strip clubs have anything to do with religion, but they devalue women and men who frequent them are depraved. I have no respect for the women who "dance" there nor the losers who lust after them.

  • KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! WB did not need nor want club -10. It is obvious you hit a nerve, as you can tell by some of the comments either workers or owners have wrote in. Also maybe we should look into CODE OF ETHICS. We all know something "fishy" had to on. Same judge let 2 strip clubs open under "technicalities" also rumor has it that a deal was made between club -10 and council to receive $2 a head. Hmmmmm...... Something to look into.

So what you and your wife (if you're not married, girlfriend) do in your bedroom are acts totally sanctioned by the church? I doubt it. So what gives you the right to decide who are the 'depraved ' ones?

Do you honestly think that many people really care wether you respect people or not? Everything that seems to be said in opposition to the club is based on religious morals and convictions, yet few of the people making accusations don't seem very religious themselves, or at least, only religious in what they themselves believe religion to be.

  • Speaking of Vegas, It was on Fox nws that Nevada took in over 92 million dollars in fees for casinos strip clubs etc.

  • "So what you and your wife (if you're not married, girlfriend) do in your bedroom are acts totally sanctioned by the church?"

I prefaced my earlier comment with the statement that I do not believe in any church and I made no reference to my gender.

"so what gives you the right to decide who are the depraved ones?"

    It's called Freedom of Speech.

"Do you honestly think that many people really care whether you respect people or not?"

No, just the respectable people care.

As an agnostic, I have no interest in religion, but common decency is best served by closing these strip clubs.

  • If you don't want your family or others going to these type of places try spending more time with them and OFF of the computer. If people had any kind of intelligence they would be able to make decisions for themselves. If you do not like strip clubs then DO NOT GO! It is as simple as that. What people do and when they decide to do it is their own business. Considering the shootings going on in Wilkes Barre among the other crimes I personally feel that maybe your energy should be put into taking pictures of more important people and things. People that are out there raping, stealing, shooting, etc...

Then I adjust my statement to be wife/husband/partner.

    "It's called Freedom of Speech."

No, freedom of speech does not give you a right to decide other peoples' positions, just to voice your opinion on them.

"No, just the respectable people care."

And who defines respectable, you? Many people are "respected" but that doesn't mean they don't do things that some people may not like or disagree with.

"As an agnostic, I have no interest in religion, but common decency is best served by closing these strip clubs."

What defines "common decency"? In this country, certain states allow marriage to females at the age of 13 (http://www.coolnurse.com/marriage_laws.htm). Is this decent? Deceny is a point of view backed up by laws. Not an induvidual's opinion.

  • If you're addicted to pornography, try spending more time on the computer. It's cheaper and prevents the rest of us from having to be reminded how many perverts live among us. Considering the crime level in Wilkes-Barre, don't support "entertainment" that contributes to prostitution, drug abuse and rape.

  • "freedom of speech does not give you a right to decide other peoples' positions, just to voice your opinion on them."

And voicing my opinion is all I did. Let the lawyers play with semantics.

    "And who defines respectable?"

Collectively, we all do, which is why respectable people cannot stand disrespect.

"Decency is a point of view backed up by laws."

Spoken like a lawyer and indisputable. However, "COMMON decency", while indeed not an individual's opinion, is the level of decency agreed upon within a civilized society. And I choose not to sink to the level of sex businesses.

Contribute huh? Stop spending so much time watching television and movies. Get YOUR degree in Psychology and learn before mindlessly running your thoughts and opinions as facts.

  • Quit taking pictures of people going into Club10. You're not helping a thing - all you're doing is aggravating people (to put it nicely.)

If you want to help something and contribute to making Northeast PA "family friendly", why don't you take that trusty camera through Wilkes-Barre and snap photos of suspects in shootings, stabbings, burglaries, etc.? This would be muchhhh more worthy of someone's time, and these suspects are the people who need to be humiliated ..or whatever it is you're trying to do ..

Are you trying to scare people straight?

Either way, put your time into something worthy of it. Oh, and also, leave religion out of this. Everyone is different and you aren't the ruler of us all. You have to be 21 to get into Club10, and if you enter, you're able to make your own decisions.

Some may have been raised believing that degrading women is wrong, but they do it anyways ..vice versa. No matter your upbringing, anything can change.

You must have kids. Who's saying that a website, preachings, and a time-consuming effort is going to stop your kids from hitting the strip clubs at age 18 / 21?
