Points of interest

One of the goals of this website is to educate Northeast PA about the problems we are having, and will continue to experience from sexually oriented businesses. Below are several excellent examples. Of greatest interest to me was the first article which displays the lengths that some sexually oriented businesses will go to silence their critics. Makes you think.

1. Why is it risky to criticize the sex industry?

2. Police say sexually oriented businesses breed crime and ruin neighborhoods.

3. We are not alone in this struggle.

  • Decent article. And this is why the club needs to be watched and regulated. How many cases of rape have there been in Luzurne? None that I can recal in my 39 years of living here, and there are already 3 stips clubs in the area for more than 10 years. Drugs have just become a veru serious problem in our area. And all the occurinces "Such as the stabbing gone wrong during a police sting" in the area have not even been clsoe to any of the existing clubs. People selling drugs are coming down from New York, and It has notihng to do with the clubs, but the fatc people are buying these drugs.
We have these prolems before this club opened. we should not try to blame one type of businsess. Just as people blame video games for violence in children. We are looking for an excuse and not a solution. I am not saying ingnore the club, keep an eye on it. If it does becoem a problem then it needs to go. But do not judge all by the acts of a few.

  • I agree with most of what you've said and done, but am not certain that this is where to make a stand as a community. There have been nudie shops in the area for years (glad you brought that up too) and they haven't been much more of a problem than just an eyesore. However, Wilkes Barre has other more pressing issues in my opinion. Drugs, crime, (robberies, murders, etc.) and the crumbling downtowm area are all terrible. I just think that I would have been more inclined to make a fuss about one of the latter. But if you can score 1 for morality in this day and age, more power to you. Most people accept or ignore the immorality these days.

  • "Mr. Family" Is Selective about the post he alows on his site. I posted a link to other Problems with other establishments but he will not post that. It is a growing problem all across the country but goes unchecked. It seems he may be bias to some of the facts. If we want to stop one kind of indecent act we must stop them all. EVen why we stay blind to them because of faith.

  • Mr. Family, I am so proud of what you are doing. Even if we still have the problem of sexually oriented businesses in our area, at least you are causing people to wake up and think critically. Unfortunately, this may be the first time some people have ever given this issue thought. I wonder what our area will look like 30 years from now if we don't take a stand today?

  • I have a relative who is a police officer in Central Pa. He has told me that some of the biggest problems he has faced locally have come from strip joints. They bring prostitution. Many of the people who go there are heavy into drugs. Basically, you're dealing with people who can't hear their consciences anymore.

I'm truly worried that NEPA is going to have big problems if we don't stop this.

Mr. Family, I'm part of a women's exercise club. The ladies and I have agreed to start sending you pictures of the cars going into these clubs. Gi8ve us a few days, but we're going to help. Thank you for reminding us that if we won't take a stand for decency in our own community, no one will.

  • The biggest problems this officer has come to is strip clubs? This has not been on the news? What has been was the multiple shootings, stabbings and drug busts not anywhere near the 3 existing clubs in our area. I am not saying that strips clubs are the beacon of good. But other places that are in our community that bring crime, Beer distributors, Convenience stores (I believe more that 30 robbed in our area last year) Pool halls, local parking lots where masses of these types of people hang out with their fancy cars paid for by drug money.
I feel that the focus is on the strip club alone, not the real problem that existed BEFORE this club opened. It is good to keep people up on what it happening in our area. But at the same time there are many common, regular men who like this type of entertainment. Do not stereotype all the patron these places.Do not judge all by the few that are bad.

  • I love Luzerne County. I have lived here most of my life. I am so thankful that finally, someone is saying what we've all been thinking.

Hats off to the Family Guy.

I was wondering if he was going to do that when I saw he turned comments back on. Same crap, different wrapper. He wants to hear no opinions about the subject other than what backs up his side of the arguement. Nice...

  • Note that none of the chiefs of police of any areas where these adult business are located has said anything that these businesses have caused an increase in crime etc. Almost any business even a
restaurant/ pizza parlor /beauty shop can cause a problem for an area
if the owner is a crook or just doesn't care about the business. Why doesn't Mr. Family obtain statements from the police to back up his claims about these adult establisments increasing crime?

  • Mr. Family,

Your site is not a valid source of information if you don't want to air both sides of this arguement. The old Soviet Union or Nazi Germany comes to mind when a single induvidual decides what people should or should not see or hear.

If you really want the community involved, then you have to realise that there are more opinions in this community than your's alone.

If you really want to have a public debate on the subject, open up the comments to all. Just edit out any cursing, links to adult sites, or defamatory remarks within induvidual posts and not just take the stance of censoring all negative posts in general.

  • I'm hearing that the club is rellllly doing poorly what a shame

  • For the record, as anyone can see by spending 30 seconds browsing the comments, I am more than happy to post the comments of those who disagree with me.

I will not, however, post comments that contain profanity, link to pornographic websites, or are generally creepy.

I believe that most negative comments prove my point for me. They help illustrate just how little thought some people have given to this issue or the problems that will come to our community if we welcome sexually oriented businesses.

So, comment often. Present your best arguments. Clean up your language and I will be happy to post your thoughts.

  • Mr Family, Apparantly people have forgotten what Family is. When your sick who do you go
to? Family. When you need money who do you go to? Family.
When you need to talk to someone without bias, who do you go to? Family. Family is there when everyone else deserts you.
Do you men and women actually think if you needed money or help that Mr. Scalzo would help you? If you need money the only way your gonna get it From Mr. Scalzo is to strip and whatever. If you were dying from AIDS that you contracted from the club, do you think he would care? Then we would see all the husbands back with their wives to wait on them and take care of them because we're Family. FAMILY, FAMILY Mr. Scalzo, got one?
I would rather be a Bible thumping looser, than a porn freak, I've got the best backing, without having to pay for it.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:31 AM

  • There's the sterotype again. "Porn Freak" Not true. I have a fantastic family. I have gone to them for money in the past, and I have helped out members a well with money.
Do you think Mr. Family would give you money? No, he doesn't know you. That's a bad comparison.
